City carries out maintenance at Hangberg public housing

The City’s public housing maintenance teams are in areas around the city for public housing upgrades and maintenance. Today, 22 July 2024, the City carried out maintenance and repairs at a number of public housing units in Hangberg, Hout Bay. The City’s Human Settlement Directorate is placing a special focus on its public housing units and has set aside more than R1,2bn for upgrades and maintenance.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim joined the teams in Hout Bay where the maintenance work was being carried out.
‘Our efforts to take back our public housing units – by investing, boosting and enhancing safety is ongoing in all areas. This year, the City launched its public housing upgrades and investment campaign and we are placing a large focus on priority work and general maintenance.
We are working nonstop to improve the lives of our tenants on a daily basis and we are investing more than R1 billion into our public housing over the next three years.
‘The City’s maintenance day service enhancement offering has proven to be an excellent method for the teams to pool all resources and do as much maintenance as possible. Today, the teams carried out plumbing repairs, electrical work and general repairs in Hangberg.
‘We ask tenants to reach out to the City for their maintenance needs and emergencies. Tenants are also urged to stand with us in our fight against public housing vandalism and anonymous tip-offs are welcomed. If you see something, say something and report it to 021 480 7700,’ said Councillor Pophaim.
